Destination: La Vega, mission: rebuild a home
During the first week of April, volunteers from the Sabana Cultural Center, in the company of the Order of Malta and the University of La Sabana, participated in the Social Project: Solidarity Easter, in order to rebuild the home of a low-income family located in the municipality of La Vega, Cundinamarca.
Among bricks, lumps of cement and shovels, the young university students who attend the Sabana Cultural Center to receive spiritual formation, carried out an activity full of social meaning. It involved the reconstruction of a home for a low-income family located in La Vega, Cundinamarca, which did not have the tools or support to provide their family with a better place to live.
The alliance was made with different organizations that wanted to transform the reality of these people, being a determining factor the participation and support of the University of La Sabana and the order of Malta, demonstrating the premise that says, united we are stronger.
"Many times I felt physically that I was not giving more, but spiritual strength and will would not let me throw in the towel."
I participated in the PSU: University Social Project of Solidarity Easter Week 2021, thanks to the invitation of Centro Sabana. Something that undoubtedly leaves me with this experience is the importance of service focused on solidarity, and how the objectives are achieved from teamwork, being the hope of a home and seeing the happiness of a whole family in La Vega, Cundinamarca.
This project contributes to the integral training of people and allows us to demonstrate the importance of a social sense from our professions, understanding the practice of training, valuing the difficulties of each trade. Many times I felt physically that I was not giving more, but the spiritual strength and the will did not let me throw in the towel. I would return with my eyes closed to another PSU, because in addition to being a space of friendship, it allows us to serve others by finding happiness and thus holiness.
