Ginebra, a place to recharge your soul

Service and fun are two words that perfectly describe the social work carried out by the young people of Centro Sabana last June, since, with the intention of sharing their skills and knowledge with others, they carried out fun and recreational activities for the inhabitants of a nursing home and a foundation located in Ginebra, Valle del Cauca.

Ginebra, is a municipality belonging to the department of Valle del Cauca in Colombia, it is located 40 kilometers from the capital, Santiago de Cali, and even this beautiful place, famous for its climate, its large trees and the production of delicious fruits such as Isabella grape, sugar cane and coffee, the young people from Centro Sabana arrived, a corporate work of Opus Dei in Chía, Cundinamarca, with the intention of sharing their skills and knowledge with the inhabitants of this place.

This activity was carried out during the week of June 6 to 13, 2022 and was part of the #ManosALaObra University Social Project, which emerged as an initiative to integrate all the social work carried out by the CorFomento Cultural Centers throughout Colombia, thus achieving the formation of young people and committed leaders, capable of creating initiatives for the benefit of the entire community.

During this time, the young people attended two places in particular, a nursing home and a foundation for children with diverse abilities. In the first place, the young people listened to the stories of the elders and shared with them during a very special day that achieved the union of two generations. On the other hand, at Fundaser, the foundation for children, the volunteers were in charge of carrying out playful and recreational activities to encourage their attention, teamwork and confidence, in addition to carrying out some beautifying works on the furniture of the place, for through the painting of a classroom and some furniture used to store the educational implements of the young people.

Similarly, and thanks to the participation of the Order of Malta, some wheelchairs were donated and markets were delivered to the community.

Undoubtedly, this was an activity that allowed the manifestation of various works of mercy that emerge from each teaching given in the CorFomento Cultural Centers and that seek to continue delving into direct dealings with God, through fun, healthy coexistence and service to others.
